Sigma-Nu Chapter

Chapter History

On March 5th of 1988, the Sigma Nu chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded by frater David Kellner. Kellner, a transfer from SUNY Cortland, also played on the rugby team. On May 5th of 1990, the colony officially became a chapter and was granted their charter.

By the early 1990's, the fraternity resided in Apt. 5k Southside. Membership was at it's peak in the Spring of 1993 with around 45 active men. In the Fall of 1993, Marc Nolan transferred from URI and brought with him many new ideas and concepts.

Prior to Foley's in 1995, the fraternity's bar was Joe's East West. David Murphy, a bartender/manager was made an honorary brother.

From Fall '95 until Spring '99, the fraternity resided at 6 Mohonk Ave. The Xi and Omicron classes marked a resurge of numbers in the fraternity. During the prime of Mohonk, membership went from around 20 to almost 40 active men. Although by the Spring of '99, multiple factors, including the loss of the 6 Mohonk house led to a downward spiral.

During Fall '99 through Spring '00 the fraternity was back to Apt. 5k Southside. Rebuilding plans were put into the works but without a house, things were not looking good.

From Fall '00 through present, the fraternity has been located at 18 North Front St. This house was obtained due to the outstanding efforts of the 9 men left at the end of Spring '00. Guy Caffrey, a TKE from Plattsburg, purchased the house for the chapter. It was around this time that the rebuilding stage was started. All old debts were paid and the chapter now has no reason to worry about losing our house again. This is a summary of our current status. The chapter is in excellent shape and we're now excitedly looking to the future.
